Thomas Pinkowish, President

Tom has twenty-four years in lending with management positions in residential and consumer lending, secondary marketing, loan servicing, compliance, and operations. In addition to managing lending departments and staff, Tom's experience includes underwriting in over 31 states, integrating a mortgage bank into a community bank operation, redesigning loan origination and servicing department, and developing policies, procedures, and operations for residential, construction, income property, and secondary market lending.

Additionally, since 1992 Tom is Director of the Community Lending Institute for America's Community Bankers, a non-profit national trade association that represents over 1,500 community banks. As CLI's Director, Tom develops the overall lending and compliance education curriculum for the community bank industry.

Tom is a 1998 graduate of America's Community Bankers' National School of Banking and an honors graduate of the Connecticut School of Finance and Management. He serves on the Underwriting, Secondary marketing, and Affordable Housing committees of the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association.

Tom instructs at various ACB,ABA, and regulator education programs across the U.S. and recently conducted a fraud school for state examiners. He is co-author with Marshall Dennis of Residential Mortgage Lending, 5th edition, released in June, 2003.


Wendy Goings, Senior Associate

Wendy Goings is a Senior Associate with REMOC Associates, LLC and President of WSG Associates, a training and consulting firm offering client services to financial institutions, nonprofits and trade associations addressing the challenges of economic development, community revitalization, and corporate diversity training She has extensive experience in the areas of affordable housing, community reinvestment, fair lending compliance, community partnerships, strategic planning, and program development.

Wendy has 13 years as a faculty member with FannieMae’s Housing Finance Institute, and with the Community Lending Institute for America’s Community Bankers (now ABA). Wendy currently serves as a Director of a New England financial institution with over 2 billion in assets.

Wendy has extensive experience instructing and consulting in the following areas:

  • Underwriting the Self-Employed Borrower
  • Quality Assurance & Fraud Prevention
  • Diversity in Residential Mortgage Lending

Additionally, Wendy has expertise contract underwriting for private mortgage insurance companies (PMI, UNITED GUARANTY, MGIC), multi-state commercial banks, and mortgage brokers. She has also been engaged to complete due diligence reviews and mystery shop assignments.

Joan Saddler, Associate

Ms. Saddler has direct experience in training and consulting in residential mortgage underwriting skills, as well as contract underwriting services and homebuyer education classes.

Joan's background is firmly grounded in underwriting to secondary market guidelines and niche portfolo products. Since starting her mortgage banking career over 12 years ago at Shawmut Mortgage Company, she has spent the past 9 years as a senior contract underwriter for MGIC and United Guaranty.

Additionally, Joan has experience in wholesale lending, where her expertise has been utilized by many lenders including Great Western, Bank of America, Wachovia Mortgage, American Mortgae Network, and Webster Bank.

Carol Wakefield, Senior Associate

Carol Wakefield, Senior Associate

Carol Wakefield is a Senior Associate with REMOC Associates, LLC and President of Carol Wakefield Consulting (CWC), Venice, CA. Partnering with REMOC Associates, LLC, Carol consults with credit union management in the creation, development, and implementation of member business loan programs. She also provides the following services to credit unions and the credit union industry:

  • Consulting in all areas of Member Business Loans and Services
  • Conducting Loan Reviews to Maintain Loan Portfolio Integrity
  • Designing and Providing Business Lending Training Sessions
  • Underwriting Business Loans
  • Speaking at Credit Union Management Seminars and Conferences

Carol’s interactive and client customized training approach quickly and effectively builds the skills needed by all areas of today’s credit unions involved in business lending: Board of Directors and Senior Management, Credit Managers, Credit Analysts, Loan Officers, Loan Administrators.

Prior to establishing CWC, Carol was a Financial Consultant with CUNA Center for Research and Advice in the Business Loan Services area. She is a past classroom and webinar instructor for CUNA Business Lending Institute and has spoken at various State Credit Union Leagues and other Credit Union Conferences.

Carol was Manager of the Business Loan Department for AltaOne Federal Credit Union. Prior to that she worked for Wells Fargo Bank for fifteen years in several key commercial lending positions and rose to the level of Senior Vice President. Carol earned an Executive MBA from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles. Carol has authored two textbooks:

  • Credit Union Guide to Member Business Lending (Sheshunoff) and Small Business Lending for Financial Institutions (Sheshunoff).
